My Love for Oxygen

Just as the oxygen we breathe is essential to life; Oxygen Magazine is one of the most precious deliveries I get. I have been their follower since 2007!

One of the articles I read recently was by Alicia Marie, a fitness model who you see in many of Oxygen's cover page and other fitness magazines.  In this article, she basically talks about how we can shed the fat and visibly see the muscles we work so hard for!

Let me share this with you through pictures...

Isn't this the truth? In all honesty, I've been guilty of this for YEARS! I remember exercising until I could not move and felt like I had no energy to do other things.

Fast forward to 2010 (skip 2011) and again in 2012 when I decided to COMMIT! Commit to an exercise program of my choice and clean my diet!

Program I decided to commit to is P90X and I am in-love once more! I felt that way when I was first introduced to it, but did not have the will to complete the entire 90 days. I used to dabble in it... 3 days here, 1 week there, 4 days here and it was a cycle. Today is different. I wake up looking forward to my commitment to complete the program and fuel my body with clean food.

I can't wait to reap the rewards and finally meet my muscles!

Face the Music

P90X shoulders and arms + ab ripper X + 20 minute high resistance spin = CHECK!

Shakeology = CHECK!

Looking back, I am SO GLAD I took pictures in January to document my progress towards my fittest, most healthy body! It caused me so much fat picture anxiety to look at a camera and pose, but those same shots were the pictures that helped me PUSH (Of course this is in addition to being accountable through my beachbody challenge and being accountable to my coach!)

Today, I feel stronger and healthier! I cannot wait to complete P90X!

In order to share with you, my lovely readers, my progress... I took a picture of myself after today's shimmy and fuel...

No judgments please --- it is only day 4 of P90X and almost two weeks into truly TOSSING THE SUGAR... I can't wait to see what day 90 will bring!

Yoga X

Yoga... Sounds easy? Wrong.

I dreaded today as day 3 of P90X is Yoga X. Its an hour and a half long yoga routine, which is very challenging (at least for me). But at the same time, I know it is essential to sculpt the body that I want and I'm currently working for!

Having said that, I am ecstatic to share that I completed this 90 minute routine!!! Yahoo!

Now, I am off to go for a trip to San Diego to pick up our bike. It is about 90 minute trip one way so I plan to listen to my morning dose of encouraging words of faith from Charles Stanley.

But before I do that, I want to share that I had my protein filled fuel, Chocolate shakeology with coffee, almond milk and half a medium banana! Other than that, I know I will be hungry on the road, so I prepared myself a lot of fruit to keep me full and satisfied. It looks like a lot of fruit, but I can attest to the fact that it will not let you gain weight for as long as you toss the sugar, shimmy and watch your intake!

Container full of sweet fruit!

1 mango
1 small apple
1 tangerine
handful of grapes

Race Across America is a competition for ultra athletes. The stories of those compete are so inspiring as they push through the toughest times. Their testimonies can prove that will power, determination, hard work, and the power of the mind can lead to success... Completing anything you put your heart and mind into. I recommend that you read the book about it or watch the DVD. I will post more about them later.

p.s. the book is definitely a favorite of mine!

P90X Day 2 Shimmy and Good Vibes

Starting the day with a boat load of energy and good vibes by completing P90X's Plyometrics or jump training!

As always, after a great workout I look forward to fueling my body with a fully loaded, nutritious shake -- Shakeology!

Today's recipe (my favorite):
1 cup unsweetened almond milk = 35 calories
1/2 scoop shakeology = 75 calories
1 cup frozen green beans = 20 calories
1 small banana = 60 calories
1 cup crushed ice
1 cup water

Total calories = 190 calories (wow, right?!)

I plan not to overdo my exercise regimen, but I would like to add some cardio to my P90X routine... Therefore, I am hopping on my spin bike for a high resistance, low intensity workout for 20 minutes!

Have a blessed week!

I Heart Sundays!

I look forward to Sundays!

The day itself makes me feel good inside --- waking up bright and early by my sweetheart, exercising as I help my blood circulate filling myself with God's gift of oxygen, getting ready for church, listening to Sunday service, walking side by side with my husband and by lunch time, a visit to the local farmers market to shop for the sweetest fruits and most nutritious vegetables!

Today was no different, except that my husband had to work so I was not able to do our food shopping with him... That's always a bummer, but on a lighter note -- we were able to spend the morning together.

I have a few farm favorites and usually stock basics such as apples, oranges and strawberries. Ideally, I'd buy all our vegetables at the market. However, I have learned not to stock too much in order not to waste whatever we buy. If I have our meals planned for the day, then I buy them there; otherwise, I wait and just visit our local grocery stores -- Pavillions, Trader Joes or Whole Foods.

Anyway, at noon I went to the market and bought a few things:

Apples from Moriah Farms - they have the sweetest, most delicious apples (pink lady and fuji)

Nova oranges from Gonzaga Farms - I am a HUGE fan of their produce! They always have fruits that are in season. I always look forward to their persimmon in the fall! A few weeks ago, they had the best oranges, called "sweet-sweet" (name is very Filipino! haha!) Too bad they are no longer in season, but these novas are pretty good. I also bought the pomelos from them.

Strawberries (freshly picked) from Brummers Farms - they have the sweetest, most juicy strawberries! They have fruit stands in Huntington Beach as well -- If I'm not mistaken, they are located by Warner and Airport Road (I still have to find where that is).  You see, I purchase quite a lot of these because I freeze them and use that to make our healthy & delicious protein shakes!

We got this recyclable bag from Kahuku Farms in Oahu, Hawaii. If you are ever in the North Shore, we highly recommend you visit their farm. It's family owned and a really nice and encouraging experience to see how they grow their fruits -- made us want to grow our own. Unfortunately, we don't have land to do that.

After the farmers market, I headed to our local Pavillions to get a few items that are pretty much staples in our home.  As you can see, there are organic items and others that are considered 'processed.' It is always best to get those that are organic/ not processed, but at the same time at least for us, we try to get what is cost effective and also fewer in calories to keep our caloric intake within our daily needs.

We always have those in the pictures in stock -- unsweetened almond milk for my shakeology, sugar free instant oatmeal, sugar free Smuckers jelly, Oven Joy whole wheat bread (90 calories for 2 slices), tomatoes and peppers for soups and pizzas (see my recipe page), tortillas and pizza crust -- which we both use for pizzas. The tortilla is low carb and only has 50 calories per serving (1 tortilla).

I also bought $6 worth of bananas! Again, I use most of these for my Shakeology smoothies, which is delicious! I usually buy the ones that are a bit 'weathered' by themselves because oftentimes, they are most ripe! In addition, I think that they might go to waste if no one pays attention -- they have the same nutritional value after all!

Happy Sunday!

130's I Have Missed You!

I just shared that I have been MIA online and have not been able to exercise. As part of my 40 days of Sacrifice for Lent, I stuck to my diet. I have not had any junk food --- I had some crackers and nuts, but those were minimal and truly, I do not consider them junk.

Sugar and processed pastries/ cookies/ chips/ cakes, etc have been out of my diet. I am happy to share that my cravings are about 90% gone.

I stuck to having my morning shake with fruit. I had my favorite vegetable sandwich from Subway (Veggie Delight!) a few times, had some salad and vegetable soup. Whenever I had a craving or felt hungry, I reached for a fruit instead of anything else. I had a power bar once, but I decided I was not going to go that route as they can be packed with sugar (can be quite addicting).

Proudly, I share that I am now 139.6 pounds! Yes, I have missed the 130's for quite some time... I continue to be motivated and feel strong about my healthy habits.

I encourage you to do the same... Focus on the 80% which is your intake and you can slowly shimmy to get rid of more weight. But that alone will help you become healthier!

Remember to fuel your mind and body with fruits, vegetables, whole grain, cut down on your dairy, toss the sugar and shimmy!

Family Comes First

Of course, I know God is first... But after Him, is family.

Because of this, I had to put my plan to blog everyday and even exercise aside.

This past week and a half has been very hectic. My grandma was in the hospital and was very ill. My aunt and I decided to drive to Vegas to visit and be with her. She passed last Tuesday.

I am sad because we will miss her terribly, but at the same time I rejoice in the fact that she is now with our Lord and Savior. She no longer suffers in pain because I am confident that she is now in heaven.

Because of that have happened, I have not been able to follow through with the recording of my intake, no exercise and no blogs posted. However, I am grateful that I was given the chance to spend her last days with her. I hope you all understand...

Blessings to all.
